From Topas Riverside Lodge you will dress up in Red Dao traditional costume that is very colorful and well made by Red Dao women. You will then walk together with Mrs. Pu to visit her home, where you will be welcomed by having a cup of herbal tea and learning about how she makes embroidery clothes.
You will then go to the garden to collect vegetables for preparing lunch. You can find many different herbs, vegetables, bamboo sprouts, or banana flowers…depending on the season.
You will experience how to make some special Red Dao dishes such as: Banana flower salad; fried bamboo sprouts with garlic; smoked pork cooked with vegetable and cardamom; or homegrown chicken cooked with ginger; sour meat with herbs.
You will enjoy lunch with Ms. Pu’s family and drink some homemade rice wine.
After lunch, you will visit a nearby family where you will meet Mr. Van – a famous shaman of the village. Here you will listen about how he has become a shaman and how he has learned Mandarin which makes him able to read and write the old shaman book.
