Itinerary

Departing from Topas Riverside Lodge, you will be met by a local Red Dzao lady Mrs Pu. Mrs Pu will take you to visit her home, where you will be welcomed with a fragrant cup of herbal tea and the chance to learn about how she makes exquisitely embroidered clothes.

Mrs Pu will then take you into the garden where you can learn about many of the herbs and vegetables grown in the village and help harvest those needed for lunch. Depending on the season, you will find many different exotic herbs, vegetables, bamboo sprouts, or even banana flowers ripe and ready to pick.

Back in the kitchen, you will have the chance to experience making some special Red Dzao dishes such as Banana flower salad; fried bamboo sprouts with garlic; smoked pork cooked with vegetable and cardamom; home reared chicken cooked with ginger; or sour meat with herbs.

You will enjoy lunch with Ms. Pu’s family and sample some of their homemade rice wine.

After lunch, you will visit a nearby family where you will meet Mr. Van, the village shaman. Mr. Van will talk to you about how he became a shaman and how he learned Mandarin in order to read the ancient book of shamanism. If you are willing, Mr. Van will be able to tell you more about your future.

You will then return to Topas Riverside Lodge to relax for the remainder of the day.
